The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
— Carl Rogers

Dr. Steve Silver has over 12 years of clinical experience. graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.  He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles. His clinical experience has included settings such as substance dependence treatment facilities, public schools, community mental health and several university counseling centers (USC, CSUN, and LMU).  His non-clinical work has included serving as Resident Manager of Haven House Sober Living in the Los Angeles area. He completed his APA-accredited internship at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), University Counseling Services and his post-doctoral Fellowship at Loyola Marymount University.  In addition to his practice, Dr. Silver currently works as a staff psychologist and Drug and Alcohol Campus Liaison at CSUN. He also enjoys clinically supervising psychology interns and postdoctoral trainees.

Dr. Silver views each person as existing within different relationships, both with self and others. He works from a Relational Psychotherapeutic approach while integrating evidence-based cognitive-behavioral techniques, including mindfulness, in order to focus on current concerns. He views each client within the cultural environments that they exist, exploring how varying identities influence their experience. His hope is that clients can gain insight into their concerns, identify new ways of relating to themselves and others, develop coping skills to decrease distress, and grow through moving into discomfort and fostering strengths that already exist within them.

Dr. Silver highly values the relationship between client and therapist and believes in the unique power it holds to offer a nurturing space in which clients can practice honesty, exploration, new ways of relating, and healthy conflict. Through reconnecting with aspects of oneself and emotional experiences, a powerful shift can take place that frequently helps manage mood and thought concerns.

At the start of therapy, Dr. Silver will collaborate with you to create an individually tailored approach, unique to your needs.  Throughout therapy, Dr. Silver will remain conscientious and intentional about ensuring that you feel heard and are moving toward desired change while offering gentle confrontation to help steer you toward your goals and shifts in perspective.
